Music For Children - They Might Be Giants - No!

September 17th 2006 06:53
Tired of The Wiggles? Can’t stand High Five? They Might Be Giants children’s album “No!” could be one for you.

Number One Son (3 & 1/2):- I like this music because it’s happy and fun and I can dance around to it. My favourite song is the one about the robots who march with flags that the children made for them (Robot Parade). My other favourite is the song that you clap and jump into the air to (Clap Your Hands). My little brother’s favourite song is the balloon song (Where Do They Make Balloons?) because my mum sings it to him and then he goes to sleep.

Little Angry Doll:- TMBG were firm favourites in our house long before the boys were born. I find it hard to believe that it’s been 16 years since I first started singing along to Bird House in Your Soul. Their quirky lyrics and upbeat melodies make them a fantastic transitional band that adults and children can both appreciate. Parents don’t have to endure boring old hippies on acoustic guitars and kids love the sense of fun that permeates through their songs. My personal favourite is John Lee Supertaster – a song about a boy with super tasting powers. You just know it’s been inspired by a little one complaining that his food “tastes TOO MUCH!!!”. In I Am Not Your Broom, a broom declares that he is no longer going to sweep because a better life awaits him, I suspect as a four year old's pony. The House at the Top of the Tree is another other favourite of mine which reduced me to tears when I was pregnant.

Fun, enthusiastic and all together lovely, “No!” is certainly a family album. My only regret is that TMBG didn’t include Cow Town from their 1988 album Lincoln.

“No!” is also an interactive CD which can be viewed with simple cartoons on the computer.
